Fitness Tips - Useful Advice to Make You Fitter

To achieve optimum overall health, it's important to have an exercise regimen in place. Seeking out fitness tips to make the most of your workout can help you achieve weight loss and fitness goals, as well as maintain overall wellness. From running to Yoga, there are many ways to stay fit. It's important to realize fitness is about more than exercise, though, if you want to be at your best fitness-wise.
When putting together a workout regimen, it might be a good idea to discuss it with your doctor or get advice from an expert such as a personal trainer. Whatever you decide when it comes to your workout, seeking out fitness tips from experts is always a good idea. Figuring out the type of workout you'll enjoy most is also wise. The simple fact is, the more you enjoy your workout, and the more likely you are to consistently do it. If you enjoy Yoga or Pilates, that should be the core of your workout, but if you are more active, you might consider running or swimming as your basis. Whatever you decide, keeping in mind reasonable goals and guidelines will help you avoid injury in the workout process.
Another key component to overall fitness is nutrition. You can't very well achieve total wellness without nourishing your body appropriately. Any fitness tip will mention nutrition and diet as a key part of fitness. Without proper nutrients, exercise can damage your body. Losing weight isn't the only thing to consider with exercise. You must consider your body's overall wellness.
Fitness tips can come from doctors, trainers, fitness instructors, or even friends and family. It's a good idea to seek an expert's advice when embarking on an exercise regimen. Keeping in mind your limitations and goals will allow you to find the workout that's right for you.

Outdoor Fitness - Some Easy Tips

You probably don't want to get up every morning to hit the same place to work out at, do you? Workouts in the gym can get really boring, and it can even force you to withdraw from working out. You can have a hard time motivating yourself if you tend to routinely work out in the gym. But you have a good option in outdoor fitness workouts to keep your motivation level at a high.
If you enjoy some fresh air, then outdoor exercises can be your serious long-term companion, to whom you would love to come back again and again. It's even backed by scientific research that an outdoor exercise regimen can boost your stamina and strength by supplying more oxygen to you at a faster rate.
An Outdoor Fitness Regimen De-Stresses Your Mind
By now it's a well established scientific fact that outdoor exercises are really good for your mental and emotional, as well as your physical health. My grandma can really feel vindicated at such a claim, she's been saying this all my life! When you exercise outside in the green environment, your body releases stress hormones and helps your burdened mind to calm down a bit. The serene surroundings also lighten you up emotionally.
Some easy Outdoor Fitness Tips
1. Walking: At first, this seems an awkward inclusion into your outdoor fitness regimen list. People tend to associate fitness with something like dedicated military exercises, but they forget that simple things like walking can really boost their stamina, and can be done by anyone. Regular walking can cure many physical ailments, and is like a cure-all for all your health problems. It's much better for burning calories than going in for weight loss diets that force you to cut down on almost everything you eat.
2. Biking: This is something that is on everyone's lips when outdoor fitness exercise is mentioned. It keeps your legs in perfect shape, improves blood circulation, and you tend to drink a lot of water which helps to flush out the toxins from your body, thus improving your health too.
3. Yoga: Yoga is a great way to reconnect with your soul, and at the same time it helps you maintain physical fitness. People can do it in the comfort of their homes, but it's best to practice Yoga in natural surroundings, as doing Yoga means inhaling a great amount of oxygen- the purer it is the better. It's not just good for losing weight and maintaining a tip-top physical shape, but it also helps the body and mind to recover from a trauma quickly.
4. Sport: This is probably something everyone will put up their hand for. Sport is not just for recreation, it can be perfect for exercising each and every part of your body. You name it: heart, lungs, abdomen, legs, hands, chest, your mind too, and it exercises every part with such perfection that it beats, even the best highly dedicated training exercise for each part, hands down. You can play Soccer, Volleyball, and many others to keep yourself fighting fit. It's also one of the best ways to get moving (our lazy bodies) in winter.
There's no need to stick to a daily gym session to keep yourself in perfect shape, outdoor fitness workouts provide you far better ways to stay fit and healthy.

Top Fitness Tips For Muay Thai Boxing

To take part in Muay Thai you need to have great fitness as well as wearing Thai boxing shorts. The fights are 5 x 3 minutes rounds for men and 5 x 2 minute rounds for women. This needs great stamina and endurance in your muscles as well as general overall fitness.
If you ever train in Thailand they strongly believe in running to help you get fit. This will include uphill sprints, running on the beach and long 10km runs every morning.
Many camps now incorporate more western techniques to help you build up fitness. For example, you will have an hour of boot camp fitness which will include conditioning techniques such as, kettlebells, circuits, resistance training etc. Then you will have an hour of cardiovascular exercises where your running will come in, then you will have Muay Thai for the remaining hour of your first session on the day.
Fitness takes over the sessions mainly when you are a beginner as there is no point trying to learn Muay Thai technique when you can not keep up the pace.
When you first start Muay Thai it is a good idea that you do some exercise in your own time to compliment the work you are doing in class. You may find that your joints, muscles, ligaments etc can not do much more exercise to being with while your body is adjusting to the new movements. But if you can stand it do some extra cardiovascular work to help speed things up a bit.
One of the favourite and beneficial exercise to do is skipping. This is because not only does it improve your cardiovascular but it also keeps you on the balls of your feet which is the Muay Thai fighting stance. The best skipping ropes to get are Taurus as they are super fast and will improve your skipping technique in no time.
When you first start spending a lot of time on the balls of your feet, you will find you may get very achy leg muscles and joint pain. So take it easy, it will not be long till you can feel your calf muscles change and you feel a lot more springy. Then you will be wearing some sexy Thai Boxing Shorts in no time to show off your newly toned legs.

Military Fitness Tips - Achieve A Fast 1.5 Mile Run In 4 Weeks

Are you preparing for a military career with the US Armed Services? If so, are you ready to run your 1.5 - 3.0 mile PRT as part of your physical fitness qualifications? I've always hated running, and so this was the scariest part of my military application process. In this article I will give you a quick breakdown on how to prepare for a 1.5 - 3.0 mile timed run in just 4 weeks.
Most recruits are given very short notice regarding their physical fitness test as part of the military application. If this applies to you, and you have at least 4 weeks and unlimited motivation, you WILL be able to achieve your run, quite successfully by following these simple strategies.
Consider Before You Run
There are two important factors that you want to consider before taking on this challenge
  1. You must be physically able to do these exercises. (Check with a doctor to be sure)
  2. stretching, both BEFORE and AFTER working out is a must
If you do not stretch before and after working out you risk physical injury and muscle damage.
The First Week
The first week is all about getting your body and muscles used to the physical activity. We will start by tackling the distance without the endurance. Your goal should be to conquer double the distance of your required run. If your PRT is 1.5 miles, you will aim for 3, if your PRT is 3 miles, you should aim for 4-5 in the first week.
The first few days will be a simple walk, with no time limit. Make sure you stretch before you start, and keep yourself properly hydrated as you go. You can even listen to an audio ASVAB study guide to keep yourself motivated as you go. Do this 3 times the first week, alternating a rest day and walk day.
The Second Week
By this time your legs should be getting stronger and used to the distance. You should also start timing your total workout, just to keep track. You are still not looking to beat the clock. Mark your start time and alternate running and walking as follows:
First day: Run for 1 minute, walk for a minute, run for 1 minute, walk for 2 minutes, run for 1 minute, walk for 3 minutes, all the way till the end. It sounds easy but you may tire towards the end.
Next running day (after a day of rest) Run for 2 minutes at a time, then walk 2 minutes. Keep alternating running and walking.
By the end of the second week you should be able to run for 3-4 minutes, walk 3-4 minutes, and run again till you reach your distance goal.
The Third Week
By this time your legs are stronger, your lung capacity is increasing, and your endurance should be improving. In the third week your goal is to complete the ENTIRE run distance WITHOUT STOPPING TO WALK.
Mark your start time so that you can track your progress. Start out with a very slow run or even a jog. Focus on pacing yourself for the distance. In the third week your goal is to complete the entire run as a run, regardless of how long it takes. Be sure that you focus extra efforts into stretching before and after, and of course take a day or two to rest in between.
The Final Week
By the end of week 3 you should have been able to run the entire distance at a slow jog. In the fourth week of preparation you will be running for a timed distance. Be sure to stretch and hydrate well, and go for it. Keep a steady pace that you can comfortably maintain. Focus on lengthening your stride and leaning your body forward to increase your pace, and go for it.

Tips For Health And Fitness!

Fitness encompasses your physical and emotional self. When people get physically fit, they are healthy and happy. Read on for some ways to help you end the struggle and start getting fit the right way.
When you have a specific set of objectives leading to a goal, you will have built in motivation for your fitness plans. This helps you see and overcome obstacles without shying away from them. Having goals give you something to work towards.
Maintain a good pace of approximately one-hundred rpm while bicycling. You'll ride faster, but with less strain on your joints. This can be determined by simply counting how many times your right leg goes up every ten seconds, and multiplying that number by six. The resulting number is the rpm you should aim for.
Running can help your overall fitness. It burns calories, creates lean muscle, and helps the heart and lungs, and it may benefit your brain as well. Performing aerobic exercise enriches your blood with oxygen, which is then delivered to your brain. Among those suffering from depression, running has been shown to be as effective a treatment as prescription medications.
When you perform exercises that include such things as pullups or lat pulldowns, your thumb should not be wrapped. Placing your thumb next to your index finger will make you use less arm and more back in the exercises. Doing so is awkward at first, but targets the correct muscles.
When you begin running, it's important to run in three separate segments. Start running at a slower pace and gradually work up to more speed. In the final third, push hard to reach the finish. This pattern improves endurance and total distance over time.
You should feel energized, not exhausted, when you finish your workout. Cardiovascular activities like jogging, swimming, running and cycling are essential to a good workout regimen. Consider including strength training and try to work on different muscle groups each day.
Before running a sprint race you should prepare by working on a faster stride. You may try to run faster by stretching out your front leg when you run. However, when your front foot lands it should be in line with your torso. In order to better propel yourself, push with the toes of your back leg. As you practice and become familiar with the proper form you will find your speed increasing.
Consider unique ways to get fit. You don't have to go to the gym to get a fair amount of exercise. By finding activities that you enjoy, you will not become bored but rather look forward to your exercise.
Improve your contact skills when training for volleyball. Foosball is a great way to improve these. Foosball is fast and competitive, involving quick hand-eye coordination with lighting fast reflexes. Lots of practice will do wonders to enhancing these skills for you, and then you can carry them back to your main sport.
As illustrated in this article, it is certainly within your reach to become more fit, and doing so will make you proud of your accomplishment. You do not have to be ashamed of how badly you are out of shape any longer. If you use these tips, you will find yourself obtaining your fitness goals in no time!

Fitness Tips - Fitness Tips For Senior Citizens

As senior citizens get older it is very important to stay active in order to maintain overall health. Some of you cannot exercise like you use to, but you can still workout and keep safe at the same time. Here are some tips to help you.
I recommend checking with your doctor if you have not worked out in over a year. It is wise to get a check up once a year any way, so while your there ask about an exercise program.
It is important to do something that you enjoy when thinking about a fitness plan. It could be lifting weights or walking on a treadmill. Any exercise is better than nothing at all. I find that seniors love to workout provided that the exercise routines are fun.
Most seniors like to workout with a trainer or a partner. I feel the reason for this is that they feel comfortable with someone helping them with their exercises. If it makes them train harder and safer then it's great for them.
Some seniors nowadays are in such good shape they can help me workout. I'm always amazed at what some senior citizens can do in a gym. Quite a few of them are still very strong and muscular. I can only hope that I will be in that good of shape.
If you never worked out or starting to get back into the swing of things. I would start off very slow at first. The individual does not want to hurt themselves right off the starting block. Take your time and the strength and endurance will come back gradually. You will have some muscle soreness when starting off. Just don't overdo it at first. The body has ways to overcome muscle soreness with rest and proper nutrition.
Starting out a fitness plan for senior citizens, I would recommend setting some short- term goals to get going. It could be something like walking a block. Walking on the treadmill, or even lifting some light weights. The more goals you set the more likely the person will keep exercising and making progress.
Please make sure you stay hydrated by drinking water throughout your workouts. Staying hydrated will also help if you suffer from cramping.
Also please make sure you have good fitted sneakers. It's very important for your safety to have a nice pair of sneakers.
Please stretch before and after you exercise. Your body will love this and prevent injuries. As we get older our joints and ligaments shorten, so stretching helps to elongate the muscle.
As senior citizens it is wise to start a fitness routine in order to maintain a healthy body and mind. It won't take long once you have a fitness plan to see great results.
I'm writing this article to help you realize how important exercise and nutrition is to your overall health and physical appearance. Exercise and nutrition helps with arthritis, diabetes, depression, motivation, weight loss, lowering cholesterol, flexibility and muscle definition.

Health and Fitness Tips for Women Over 50

How do you define "old"? Reaching a certain physical age does not mean you're old, and growing old certainly does not mean you're useless. Unfortunately, in our culture we get many signals that reinforce messages that aging is bad, and many middle-aged adults think this way.
Most middle-aged adults need to pay more attention to their health than they did when they were younger. Research shows that most diseases that afflict women in their 50s involve health factors you have some control over, along with nutritional deficits. To promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce your risk of disease, make sure you are doing basic preventive care focusing on stabilizing your blood pressure, controlling your cholesterol levels and getting periodic diabetes screenings.
Regular exercise in women over 50 years old helps to decrease menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disorders and joint pain. Regular exercise also reduces the risk for cardiac illnesses, helps prevent osteoporosis and diabetes, and aids in weight control and maintenance.
Here are some health and fitness tips for women over 50:
Exercise. According to Cedric Bryant, PhD, chief science officer for the American Council on Exercise, daily exercise by women over 50 helps the body function better. Active exercise helps to avoid or delay the natural process of the body's systems becoming more inefficient as you age. An ideal fitness program for women over 50 should include aerobic, strength and stretching exercise routines.
Keep Moving. According to research, there are many health benefits women realize from moving regularly, and a growing body of research shows the serious health implications of being sedentary, including complications such as diabetes. At a minimum, you should be able to conduct your daily living activities easily and pain-free. Something as simple as taking a few extra steps each day can help reduce the risk of illness, and you can easily track your steps using a pedometer.
Increase Calcium Intake. It is common knowledge that calcium is a significant factor in the growth and development of the bones. Research shows that women over 50 years of age are prone to osteoporosis, a condition where there is a deficient level of calcium in the body, making the bones porous and weak. This can lead to an overall degradation of the skeletal system, including broken bones that can result in hospitalization and serious complications. To help prevent osteoporosis, increase your calcium intake, which can promote bone formation and help strengthen your bones.
Increase Fiber Intake. Fiber-rich foods in your diet provide a feeling of fullness and can help prevent you from eating too much, which can help avoid weight gain and facilitate weight loss. According to research, the onset of obesity is common at 50 and beyond. Being overweight poses myriad health threats, especially to women. Complications related to obesity include diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis and hypertension. Fiber can also help to reduce cholesterol levels, and studies have shown that consuming at least 10 grams of fiber a day decreases the risk of having heart problems.
Count Calories. As we age, every system in the body works less efficiently, and this can have an impact on the energy levels of women over 50 years of age. One significant issue of women at this age is not paying attention to their daily food intake. Many of us have the tendency to eat whatever food we feel like eating, and without paying attention to what we consume can lead to over-eating and weight gain. Research says that active women above 50 should limit their calorie intake to 1,900 kcal per day. This general guideline is designed to provide just enough calories to maintain a high energy level throughout the day.
